Brazilian Portuguese, one word at a time

Keep scrolling.
Make it cost something.

Before Instagram, TikTok or X opens, a Portuguese word stands in the way. Type it, then carry on. You open those apps dozens of times a day — that is dozens of words.

The gate

One word before the scroll.

Set it up once and Linguease sits in front of Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, Reddit and Facebook. Puxar means pull, not push. Type it, and the app opens.

  • Works with any app you can name in Shortcuts.
  • No Screen Time setup. No Family Controls permission.
  • Skip once if you genuinely need to. Linguease remembers.

Home-screen widget

One word, waiting for you.

A calm tile on your home screen. Small, medium or large. It changes colour on a spaced-repetition cycle, so it never quietly becomes wallpaper.

  • Translation on top, the word in italic, phonetic underneath.
  • Twenty-four colour themes — pick one or let it rotate.
  • Words you've nailed rotate out. The stubborn ones don't.
Everything else

A few quiet details.

Add words with Siri.

Hear something on the street you don't know? Say "Hey Siri, add saideira to Linguease" and it lands on your widget without opening the app.

Built for Brazilian Portuguese.

The words that actually come up — massa, rodízio, pertinho — not textbook set pieces. Fifty other languages are in the picker if Portuguese isn't the one you're after.

Your own words.

Type or paste anything you're trying to hold on to. Linguease fills in the translation and the phonetic. No fixed lists, no forced curriculum, no streak to protect.

Works with the phone off.

Translations run on-device once your language has downloaded. No connection needed, and nothing about what you're learning leaves the phone.

Good to know

A few straight answers.

How is this different from Duolingo?

Duolingo is a study session you sit down for. Linguease is the opposite — it uses the time you were going to waste anyway. No streaks, no pressure, no gamification. If you already do a lesson a day, this sits alongside it rather than replacing it.

Does the gate use Screen Time?

No. Linguease uses a Siri Shortcuts personal automation to put the word in front of the app you're opening. You set it up once in the Shortcuts app and Linguease walks you through it. It never asks for the Family Controls permission.

Which apps can I put it in front of?

Any app you can name in Shortcuts. Most people pick Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, Reddit and Facebook, but nothing is hard-coded.

Is it only Brazilian Portuguese?

That's what it's built around and where the word lists are strongest. Fifty other languages are available in the picker, European Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Dutch and Irish among them.

Is it free?

The widget and basic translations are free. Phonetics, every language, and unlimited words are part of the subscription. Cancel any time from iPhone Settings.

iPhone only?

Yes, for now — iOS 16 and above. The whole product is the home-screen widget and the Shortcuts gate, and both are iPhone-specific.

Free to try

Add a few words. Open Instagram. See what happens.

The widget is free. The rest is a quiet subscription — cancel any time.
